Kelly Liu
Chinese-born pianist Kelly Liu began studying the piano at the age of five. She graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor in Piano Performance, learning from Prof. Gerard Willems. She also studied Piano Pedagogy with Dr. Bernadette Harvey, Accompaniment with Prof. David Miller and Chamber Music with Prof. Philip Shovk. Kelly has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in various concerts and interpreted a wide range of repertoire from the Baroque to Contemporary.
Kelly has won major competitions and awards, including the prize winner in Jiangmen Piano Competition (2005), 3rd prizes in both the Macao International Piano Competition (2004), and Hong Kong Youth Piano Competition (2007). Her performances were met with great enthusiasm that gained her the opportunity to perform in various masterclasses. In Sydney, Kelly has performed the Chopin Ballade No.4 for the world-renowned concert pianist Paul Lewis in his masterclass in 2015. Recently, she performed Liszt’s Concert Etude in the Gala Concert and joined the concert series: Beethoven 250: The complete Piano Sonatas to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth by performing the Op. 2 no.1 in F minor at the Conservatorium of Music.
Kelly has years of teaching experience in piano. She is an accredited Piano & Music Theory teacher of The Music Teachers’ Association of NSW as well as a pre-service high school music teacher. She is currently finishing the Master of Teaching (Secondary) at UNSW and will soon be gaining accreditation with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
