The Music Teachers' Association of NSW encourages its members to take part in ongoing professional development, as it ensures that music teachers are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to provide high-quality learning experiences for their students.
Musical pedagogy is constantly evolving as researchers uncover new insights into how people learn music. Professional Development ensures that teachers are aware of and can implement evidence-based practices in their teaching.
Face-to-Face Workshops
All members are encouraged to attend the various professional development workshops, seminars and masterclasses that are offered by the Music Teachers' Association of NSW throughout the year.
Face-to-face settings enable hands-on demonstrations and practical exercises, fostering a deeper understanding of musical concepts.
Workshops provide valuable opportunities for music teachers to connect, share experiences, and build professional networks. This sense of community can be highly supportive and inspiring.
First Thursdays
On the first Thursday of every month during school terms, the Music Teachers' Association of NSW offers free professional development sessions to its members, on a variety of topics related to music teaching.
These regular professional development sessions were originally the brainchild of MTA Member Annette Allerding, who wanted music teachers to be able to meet and share ideas. Originally named Keys, Cakes and Conversation (KCC) the group went online during Covid, and eventually reached numbers often in excess of 50 teachers, meeting each month on Zoom. The Music Teachers' Association of NSW is delighted to bring these sessions into our fold. We want the sessions to continue to be free to our members, but we also believe it is important to pay presenters for their valuable time. So we ask you to consider a giving a donation towards the costs if you are able. You will be given the option to donate when you book your place.
Conferences
he Music Teachers' Association of NSW holds a two-day conference for studio music teachers to engage with an incredible line-up of Australian presenters in areas of music pedagogy, business, history and well-being.
These conferences give teachers an opportunity to engage in creative and diverse workshops, inspiring fireside talks, demonstrations, performances and interactive discussions that will impact the music teaching space.
