Harmonise with Wolfgang and JSB
MTA Newcastle, Christ Church Camerata and Francis Xavier College present:
Harmonize with Wolfgang and JSB Learning harmony through improvisation - an introduction to Partimento with David Banney
Places limited to 20 participants. Workbooks will be provided.
If you are looking for an engaging and practical approach to learning harmony, this workshop is for you. Explore the rich harmonic language of Western music—from Corelli and Bach to Mozart, Schubert, and beyond.
The great composers of the past learned harmony at the keyboard, with improvisation leading to composition. At the heart of their training was the tradition of partimento—a rich, highly practical approach to harmony and counterpoint that originated in Baroque Italy and remained in use in some conservatories well into the early 20th century.
In this hands-on workshop, each participant will have access to their own keyboard while being introduced to the fundamental principles of partimento.
